Accessibility Statement
Olana Light is committed to making art accessible to all. This commitment extends to the digital experience.
Our approach
Accessibility is a priority in both the artwork and the website. The site has been designed with WCAG 2.1 principles in mind, aiming for AA conformance across colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support.
What we've implemented
This website includes:
- Semantic HTML and a logical heading hierarchy
- Keyboard navigation with visible focus states
- A skip-to-content link for screen reader users
- Descriptive alt text on artwork and content images
- Sufficient colour contrast between text and background
- Reduced-motion support for visitors who prefer less animation
- Accessible video controls and captions where available
- Touch-friendly controls sized for mobile use
Motion & animation
The website uses subtle ambient motion as part of the artistic experience. If you prefer reduced motion, the site respects your system's prefers-reduced-motion setting and minimises all animations and transitions.
Images & video
Artwork images include descriptive alt text. Videos feature poster images and accessible playback controls. Where captions or transcripts are available, they are provided alongside the media.
The image viewer (lightbox) supports keyboard navigation using arrow keys and can be closed with the Escape key.
Ongoing improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing process. If you encounter any barriers while using this website, or have suggestions for improvement, please get in touch — your feedback helps make the experience better for everyone.
